Basketball is one of the most beloved sports with millions of fans avidly following it around the world. The game was invented in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts and has spread worldwide since then. Basketball at the Olympics, NBA and Euro league are some of the most famous basketball tournaments.
Basketball became a part of the South Asian Games (SAG) during 1995. India dominated the SAG Basketball Men’s tournament winning gold medals consecutively in 1995, 1999 and 2004. The winning streak got broken during the 2010 games when Afghanistan successfully beat India and bagged the gold medal.
This year, like cricket, Basketball is making a comeback in SAG after 8 years. A total of 6 countries will be participating in this year’s tournament: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
