Digital wallets have come a long way

Rohit Regmi, eSewa User

Online payments are now widely accepted. But, if we look back to just a few years, there were not many people in Nepal who had confidence in digital wallets and online payment gateways. Today’s story is all about one of the early adopters of eSewa who has had continuous faith in us throughout all these years.
Mr. Rohit Regmi, working in Agriculture and Social banking department at Rastriya Banijya Bank has been using eSewa for more than 5 years now. Being one of the lucky winners of our eSewa Dashain campaign, we had the chance of meeting him and knowing his story. He says, he got to know about eSewa from the current CEO of Social Security Fund Mr. Kapil Gyawali who at the time was working at Rastriya Banijya Bank. When he first heard about eSewa back in 2014, he was very excited and gave it a try right then. He remembers using eSewa mostly for mobile recharge during initial times. Slowly, eSewa came up with more updates and he could pay for electricity bills, online shopping, travel ticketing and etcetera.
These days, he recharges all his family member’s mobile numbers using eSewa and makes electricity bill payment and travel tickets payment as well. He says that getting to use online payment services for almost all the utility payments at little to no cost has been a big help for him. Finally, he hopes eSewa expands to other government services as well like tax payments and others.
