Cricket is the second most popular sports in the world with a fan-base of 2.5 billion. British invented the game in 16th century and declared it as the national game of England in 18th century.
A total of 7 countries are participating in this year’s South Asian Games 2019 happening in Nepal. The participating nations include 4 test playing nations: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and 3 other nations: Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan. This time, India and Pakistan are not participating in the SAG cricket while Sri Lanka U-23 and Bangladesh U-23 team are competing with senior team members of Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
The latest record of Cricket played in South Asian Games is in 2010 where the host country Bangladesh (U-21 Team) won gold beating Sri Lanka (U-21 Team) while Pakistan (U-21 Team) claimed bronze beating Maldives.
At SAG 2019, the cricket tournaments will run from December 3 to December 10, 2019. Men’s tournament is set to be held in TU Cricket Ground, Kathmandu while Women’s tournament will be held in Pokhara Rangasala Ground. The tournament begins with the host nation Nepal competing with Sri Lanka (U-23) on December 3, 2019 at 11 AM.
