How to Register and Complete KYC in the eSewa App: Step-by-Step Guide

Digital wallets have made everyday payments faster, easier, and more convenient. Among Nepal’s most trusted digital payment platforms is eSewa, which allows users to send money, pay bills, recharge mobile phones, shop online, and much more. 

If you are new to eSewa, this guide will help you understand how to download the app, create an account, log in, and complete your KYC verification process successfully. 

Step 1: Download the eSewa App 

The first step is to download the eSewa app on your smartphone. 

  • If you use an iPhone, download it from the App Store. 
  • If you use an Android phone, download it from the Play Store. 

Once the app is installed, open it and tap on Register. 

Step 2: Register Your eSewa Account 

To create your account, you will need to enter: 

  • Mobile number 
  • Full name 
  • Gender 

After filling in the details: 

  • Tick the Terms and Conditions checkbox. 
  • Tap on Proceed. 

You will then receive an OTP (One-Time Password) via SMS from eSewa. 

  • Enter the OTP. 
  • Tap Submit. 

Next, create your new MPIN. 

  • Enter your preferred MPIN. 
  • Re-enter it to confirm. 
  • Tap Submit. 

Once completed, you will receive a welcome message confirming your registration. 

Step 3: Login to Your Account 

To log in: 

  • Enter your eSewa ID 
  • Enter your mPIN 
  • Tap on Login 

After logging in, you will see the Complete Your KYC option. Tap on it to begin the verification process. 

Before starting KYC, make sure you have your original government-issued ID with you. Accepted documents include: 

  • Citizenship Certificate 
  • Passport 
  • Driving License 
  • Voter ID 

Step 4: Fill in Personal Details 

In this section, you will need to provide your personal information carefully. 

Required details include: 

  • Nationality 
  • Full name 
  • Date of birth 
  • Gender 
  • Parents’ details 
  • Marital status 
  • Occupation 

PAN number and email address are optional, but you may add them if available. 

Nationality Examples 

  • A Nepali citizen should select Nepali.
  • A foreign user, such as someone from India, should select Indian or their respective nationality. 

It is very important that all information matches exactly with the details mentioned in your official document. 

After filling in the details: 

  • Tick the nationality confirmation box. 
  • Tap Save & Continue. 

Step 5: Fill in Address Details 

Next, you will need to provide both your: 

  • Current address 
  • Permanent address 

Details include: 

  • Province 
  • District 
  • Municipality 
  • Tole 
  • Ward number 

Make sure all address information is accurate and clearly entered. 

Then tap Save & Continue. 

Step 6: Capture a Live Selfie 

The next step is live photo verification. 

Using the app: 

  • Capture a live selfie in good lighting. 
  • Make sure your face is clearly visible. 
  • Keep your eyes open and visible. 
  • Maintain a formal and clear appearance. 

A good selfie should: 

  • Be bright and clear 
  • Show your full face properly 
  • Avoid blur or shadows 

Photos that may get rejected include: 

  • Blurry photos 
  • Dark or unclear images 
  • Informal poses 
  • Photos with covered faces or closed eyes 

Step 7: Upload Government ID Photos 

Now, capture live photos of your selected government ID document. 

You must upload: 

  • Front side photo 
  • Back side photo 

Accepted documents: 

  • Citizenship Certificate 
  • Passport 
  • Driving License 
  • Voter ID 

Important points to remember: 

  • The document must be valid and not expired. 
  • The document should be clear and readable. 
  • Use the same document type you selected earlier. 
  • The information on the document must match your personal details exactly. 

Step 8: Submit for Verification 

Before final submission, review all your details carefully. 

Please make sure: 

  • Personal details are accurate 
  • Nationality is correct 
  • Document photos are clear 
  • Live selfie is clear and valid 

Only after checking everything properly should you tap Submit for Verification.  Once submitted, your KYC will go under the verification process. Usually, KYC verification is completed within 24 hours. 

Completing your KYC correctly helps ensure a smooth and secure experience while using eSewa services. Always use genuine documents and provide accurate information to avoid delays or rejection during verification.
